Hangzhou, the quaint capital of Zhejiang Province, provides the visitor with enchanting lakes surrounded by traditional architecture and breathtaking gardens. Hangzhou is one of
China's six ancient capitals. Hangzhou came into existence in 589AD.
West Lake is aptly named because of its location on the western edge of the city. The picturesque lake is surrounded on three sides by lush green hills. In the southern portion of the lake sits the Moon Reflected in Three Ponds. Three massive and graceful stone carvings grace the lake, which are reflected in the moonlight, thus the name. The enchantment of West Lake is captured by its abundance of peach blossoms, peonies, and lotus blooms, which are reflected by the lake in spring and summer. A boat tour around the lake provides visitors with views of enchanting pagodas and teahouses, temples, caves and hidden springs, which are masterfully interwoven into the natural landscape of the lake.
Pagoda of Six Harmonies overlooks the Qiantang River in the southern part of Hangzhou. The Pagoda was constructed in 970AD, and restored in 1153AD. The building is an octagon, which rises 60 meters in height. The structure is indicative of the Song Dynasty architecture. The Pagoda towers above the river, and provides a panoramic view of the river and lush green surrounding landscape.
